e-portfolio

Effective uses of portfolios in the field of art, modeling and architecture have set a good example to the education system. Most ordinary sample of portfolios in our educational system is the old nursery school tradition to gather all fancywork and drawings to a portfolio that is handed over to the child in spring. Also course participants are delivered their gained course information and own works in the kit. Collection of materials from different courses forms a portfolio.

Tutorial work organization and evaluation method that reflects self-development has received a new name in the virtual world – e-portfolio. This e-portfolio can be the learner’s electronic data collection that responds to the competency standards of the certain field and includes author’s evaluation and feedback to his/her activities.

Several technical solutions for using e-portfolio service have been created. In 2005, a project called OPAH was started (http://www.htk.tlu.ee/opah) and as a result of that project on the basis of Tallinn University the Estonian teachers’ e-portfolio service is produced (http://www.htk.tlu.ee/opahdemo). According to the plan this service is ready for test by August. The project partner for E-portfolio development training module testing is Tiger Leap Foundation. E-portfolio application start-up in full extent is expected in 2007.
